While you’re not likely to have an arsenal of weapons around when the zombie apocalypse happens, you’re going to need to think outside the box in you want to survive. What do you have around the house that could be used to take down a few ravenous zombies—items that aren’t bulky, easy to transport, and easy to handle while causing a decent amount of damage.

Knives

• Good for close combat but problematic as a small slip of the fingers could leave you with less than you started
• Easy to transport and readily available in most kitchens

Shovels

• Generally available to most
• Can be bulky in hand-to-hand combat situations
• Splinters are a possibility

Firearms

• Not always as readily available for some
• Ammo is not self-replenishing
• They can jam making them ineffective in important moments
• Depending on size they can be bulky
• Accuracy is an important aspect to consider

Crowbar

• Generally available to most
• Made of hard, almost indestructible material
• Good for stabbing and hitting
• Smooth surface could get slippery
