ZOMBIE FILM FRIDAY: Resident Evil: Retribution | #UmbrellaCorporation #Zombies

The last film in the Resident Evil franchise, until the next one is released, is Resident Evil: Retribution. This is an interesting film and one that definitely deserves being watched. If you haven’t seen it, be sure to catch up on the rest of the films first!

mv5bmta2ntkwnjuxntzeqtjeqwpwz15bbwu3mde2otmxmtg-_v1_ux182_cr00182268_al_Alice awakes at home with her daughter Becky and her husband. But soon she realizes that she is actually in an Umbrella Corporation’s underground facility. Out of the blue, the computer security system shuts-down and Alice flees to the central control room of the facility. She meets Ada Wong, who works with Albert Wesker, and she learns that a five-man team has been sent by Wesker to rescue them. However, the Red Queen sends Jill Valentine and Rain to hunt them down.

My Rating: A+

Interesting Facts: The voice over for the trailer of the film is Patrick Stewart; Bingbing Li’s entire dialogue was dubbed by Sally Cahill who voiced Ada Wong in the video games; and the character Becky was not originally to be hearing-impaired, but after an outstanding audition, the role was given to Aryana Engineer.

ZOMBIE FILM FRIDAY: Resident Evil: Afterlife | #UmbrellaCorporation #Zombies

Next up on Zombie Film Friday is Resident Evil: Afterlife.

I loved this installment of the franchise for quite a few reasons—the evolution of the zombies, Kim Coates, and all the scenes in the prison. If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend it.

mv5bmtkxnzm3otg5of5bml5banbnxkftztcwmda5mda2mw-_v1_ux182_cr00182268_al_In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead – and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

My Rating: A+

Interesting Facts: During filming, Milla Jovovich accidentally shot out a $100,000 camera; this is the only film in the series without the trademark close-up shot to Alice’s eye, and without any scene with Alice waking up from slumber; and the weird creatures with the flower-like mouths are called majini and are lifted directly from the video games.

ZOMBIE FILM FRIDAY: Resident Evil: Extinction | #UmbrellaCorporation #Zombies

Resident Evil: Extinction may be my least favourite of the franchise but it’s still a very good film in its own right. The desert setting makes for a number of interesting situations and the tide of the apocalypse sweeping across the landscape and what it left behind is breathtaking and utterly terrifying.

mv5bmja0nziwmdi2mf5bml5banbnxkftztcwnze1ntg0mq-_v1_ux182_cr00182268_al_Years after the Raccoon City disaster, Alice is on her own; aware that she has become a liability and could endanger those around her, she is struggling to survive and bring down the Umbrella Corporation led by the sinister Albert Wesker and head researcher Dr. Isaacs. Meanwhile, traveling through the Nevada Desert and the ruins of Las Vegas, Carlos Olivera, L.J., and new survivors K-Mart, Claire Redfield, and Nurse Betty must fight to survive extinction against hordes of zombies, killer crows and the most terrifying creatures created as a result of the deadly T-Virus that has killed millions.

My Rating: A

Interesting Facts: There were unused scenes from the original script where Alice manages to hack into the files of Umbrella, revealing her real name is not Alice Abernathy but Janice Prospero; a conscious decision was made early on to make this the bloodiest of the Resident Evil films; and Ali Larter was cast largely on the strength of her performance in the first two Final Destination movies.

ZOMBIE FILM FRIDAY: Resident Evil: Apocalypse | #UmbrellaCorporation #Zombies

So as we continue taking a look at the Resident Evil franchise, it brings us to Resident Evil: Apocalypse that takes place deep in the streets of Raccoon City. In my opinion, it was a great follow-up to the first movie and an excellent introduction to many of the favourite characters from the games.

mv5bmtc1ntuxmzk0nl5bml5banbnxkftztcwndq1mdizmw-_v1_ux182_cr00182268_al_Alice awakens from a terrible sleep to find her worst fears realized—the bloodthirsty Undead, which she and the now-annihilated squad of elite military fought to destroy, have been unleashed on the city that surrounds the secret facility of the Umbrella Corporation. Discovering she was an Umbrella experiment, Alice has been bio-genetically enhanced with new strengths, senses and dexterity—and she will need them. In the heart of the ravaged Raccoon City, a small group of uninfected people, including Jill Valentine, a recently demoted member of Umbrella Corp’s elite Special Tactics and Rescue Services team, and S.T.A.R.S team leader Carlos Oliveira, fight for their lives against swarms of Undead and the deadlier and faster Lickers. Running out of luck and resources, the group is rescued by Alice, and they begin to wage an exhilarating battle to survive and escape before the Umbrella Corporation erases its experiment from the face of the earth. Their only hope lies somewhere within…

My Rating: A

Interesting Facts: The trailer for this film was one of the most watched on the Internet, with 8.5 million downloads from November 2003 to May 2004; The suit for Nemesis weighed in excess of 60 pounds and stuntman Matthew G. Taylor could only stay in it for periods of up to 15 minutes before it got too hot; Paul W.S. Anderson first started writing the screenplay almost immediately after completing the first film; and Oded Fehr had little difficulty in playing a character so familiar with handling guns – he was trained in the Israeli army.

ZOMBIE FILM FRIDAY: Resident Evil | #BewareofUmbrellaCorp

I love Resident Evil – I love the franchise from the movies to the games. It’s probably one of my favourite franchises and if you’ve never seen it, I would suggest giving it a whirl.

mv5bmti5nzq3oti1nf5bml5banbnxkftztywmdgyntk5-_v1_ux182_cr00182268_al_A virus has escaped in a secret facility called “The Hive,” turning the staff into hungry zombies and releasing the mutated Lab “Animals” that they were studying. The complex computer shuts down the base to prevent infection. The parent corporation sends in an elite military unit, where they meet Alice, who is suffering from amnesia due to exposure to nerve gas. The military team must shut down the computer and get out, fighting their way past zombies, mutants, and the computer itself, before the virus escapes and infects the rest of the world. Alice must also come to terms with her slowly-returning memories.

My Rating: A

Interesting Facts: All the minor cuts and bruises on Milla Jovovich’s character are real—no make-up was applied; the crew had a hard time dealing with the dogs who kept licking the blood and meat off themselves; and even though they’re everywhere, the word “zombie” is never spoken in this film.
