In this edition of Zombie Film Fridays, I’m going to take a few moments to talk about Cockneys Vs Zombies. I really enjoyed this film for a few reasons. Firstly, British comedies are some of my favourites and this one delivers on all levels. I also truly appreciated the way they handled the resourcefulness of the seniors in the film. I don’t want to give too much away but anyone, at any age, can kick some zombie ass when they need to.
This British movie is about a group of inept criminals who decide to rob a bank so they can save their grandfather’s retirement home from being demolished by developers. Meanwhile on another building site some workers dig up an old graveyard and they get bitten by the “undead” which sets off a chain reaction. Then the bank robbers are cornered by the police while in the process of the robbery, but when they exit they find that they are all dead as a result of the horde of zombies. They have to get to the retirement home before the zombies do!
My Rating: A
Interesting Facts: The film makers appealed quite extensively via local newspapers in and around London for volunteers to play the parts of the zombies; Many of the people who appeared in this film have also been in Dr Who; and In the bank, when the manager asks the robbers for their forms, she names of the forms as “27B-6,” which is a reference to Brazil (1985).
And now it’s time for the trailer…
